Jerry Rawlings

Artist of the Black Hills member Jerry Rawlings

While I practice many different styles of photography, it is Street Photography that I currently find myself immersed in. Street photography has a very long and illustrious history. Photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, Elliot Erwitt and Vivian Maier are my inspiration and challenge me to follow in their distinct style of documenting the street. I understand that these documentarians changed our medium and that the footsteps that I follow in are almost impossible to match. Yet, this unique art form is no less important today than it was during their eras, and I strive to keep it alive in small town America.

Jerry Rawlings is a graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography, and received his MFA from Vermont College. Jerry has 25+ years of experience working the fields of advertising/commercial photography. His list of clients include Born Footwear, Kork-Ease Footwear, Bass Pro Shops, Current Greeting Cards, Deadwood Chamber of Commerce, Silverado Casino, Celebrity Hotels, Martin and Mason Hotel, Rocky, and The Food Network, to name but a few. Currently Jerry has immersed himself into the realm of Street Photography. His current body of work “The Streets of Deadwood” has recently been exhibited at the Adams Museum and Dahl Arts Center. Jerry teaches photography at Black Hills State University.
